Budgam, July 15: Residents of Pandit Colony, Chan Mohalla, Ustaad Colony and adjoining areas in Budgam staged a protest on Wednesday against the alleged supply of contaminated drinking water, claiming the problem has persisted for the past 15 days.
The protest, led predominantly by women, was held near Budgam Chowk, where demonstrators briefly disrupted traffic while demanding immediate restoration of safe drinking water and prompt action by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department.
Protesters alleged that the water being supplied to their households was polluted and unfit for human consumption. They said repeated complaints to the concerned authorities over the past two weeks had failed to yield any response.
Residents expressed concern over the potential health risks posed by the contaminated water, particularly to children and elderly people, and said the prolonged disruption had caused significant hardship.
The protesters urged the PHE Department and the district administration to identify the source of contamination, restore the supply of potable water without further delay, and take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
They warned that if the issue is not resolved at the earliest, they would intensify their protest in the coming days.
