‘Srinagar is right on top of places where motorsports can happen’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said first-ever Formula-4 car racing in Srinagar will further showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s beauty.
PM Modi posted a message on X about the first-ever Formula-4 car racing event in Srinagar.
“This is very heartening to see. It will help further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi posted on X, formerly twitter.
“India offers great opportunities for motorsports to thrive and Srinagar is right on top of the places where it can happen!,” he further added.
The 1.7 km long Formula-4 car race was held from Lalit Ghat on the banks of the Dal Lake to Nehru Park in the city.
The race featured stunts by professional Formula-4 drivers. The event started at 10 am and concluded at 2 pm.
Scores of enthusiastic youth had turned up to witness the race. After the event, professional car race drivers interacted with the fans.
Authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the event which included levelling of the racing surface and black-topping of potholes, installation of barricades, deployment of medical teams with ambulances, fire extinguishers and adequate security.
This ‘adrenaline rushing’ car race was very exciting and enthralling for people, who had come to watch the event.
For the motorsports fans in Srinagar, the Formula-4 car run represented more than just a sporting event. It is a symbol of progress and innovation, a testament to the city's resilience and determination to embrace new opportunities.
The race was a collaboration between Formula-4 and the Indian Racing League under the aegis of the Kashmir’s Tourism department.
During the run, two cars rammed into the plastic barricades erected on the sides of the road for the spectators' protection. Several spectators were hit by debris from the barricades but no one was injured.
