January 27, 2026 | Syed Mohsin Attiq

Every nation-State envisions its growth trajectory through various pillars of development. Those growth engines become guiding force in every mission and vision of development. Our great country has also envisioned the goal of a developed economy by 2047.The transition to a developed economy is a monumental task, one that requires the active participation of every sector, particularly MSMEs. MSMEs, comprising over 63 million enterprises, are one of the growth engines of India’s economy, contributing significantly to employment, exports, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Firstly MSMEs act as backbone of inclusive development, innovation & balanced regional development. MSMEs are of paramount importance in poverty reduction and innovation in rural and semi-urban areas. They always encourage local entrepreneurship and integrate rural economies. MSMEs contribute around 30% of India's GDP and 50% of manufacturing output. MSMEs are the largest source of non-agricultural jobs, which create immense opportunities for our youth, women & marginalized sections of society. MSMEs always reduce rural-urban migration by improving living standard of masses. hey help in neutralising rural-urban migration by balanced regional development thus helping in achieving cherished dreams of Sustainable Development goals.
Secondly the government initiatives vis a visa MSME sector is incredible and remarkable. The central schemes like PMEGP,VISHWAKARMA ,MUSSION YUVA etc are the central flagship schemes which serve as building blocks of credit dispensation. The PMEGP scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme of Ministry of Micro, Small and medium enterprises to provide credit-linked subsidy in non-farm sector This scheme has always proved as a catalyst in generating self-employment through establishment of new enterprises in agricultural and non-agricultural sector. It offers a margin money subsidy (15-35%) on bank loans for setting up businesses, with eligibility for individuals over 18, and requires higher education (8th pass) for projects above certain costs, while Self Help Groups and institutions can also apply. KVIC Mumbai acts as national Nodal agency for this flagship scheme. PM Vishwakarma is a Central Sector Scheme launched by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to provide holistic and end-to-end support to artisans and craftsmen. The Government introduced the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in 2023-24. The Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister on 17.09. 2023. The Scheme aims to provide end-to-end support to artisans and craftsmen of 18 trades who work with their hands & tools. Mission Yuva is a Jammu & Kashmir government flagship program aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and self-employment. It aim is to transform J&K youth into job creators rather than job seekers, promoting economic development and sustainable development.
Last but not the least, let us lend our wholehearted support as responsible Indian Citizens in achieving the cherished objectives of Viksit Bharat Mission. Better late than never.
