2024 Lok sabha elections gave Jammu and Kashmir a new charismatic face as a Member Parliament from Srinagar constituency. Aga Ruhullah Mehdi swept the Lok Sabha seat on National conference ticket. The bond remained covalent till the Legislative Assembly elections of J&K union territory were held after a decade long wait and National Conference got incumbent by delivering plethora of promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Aga Ruhullah Mehdi pre polls was agile during campaigning for JKNC and remained a witness of what Omar Abdullah promised to the gullible masses of Jammu and Kashmir for being perched on a Chief minister`s chair.

Things started getting soured up after National conference came into power by winning the majority of seats across jammu and kashmir. Once CM Omar Abdullah handled the office , Ruhullah Mehdi flipped to the public side and started demanding what Omar government once promised to the people. Such firm was Ruhullah`s stance that he even accompanied opposition in a protest against his own ruling party.
Some cogent issues he keeps reiterating on are the reappearance of Article 370 , Statehood, and Reservation. The saga of castigating one another hitherto has reached to the worst now.This intra party ideological drift turned into a "Mote in an Eye" for National confrence and earned Ruhullah Mehdi people`s love and credibility. Things went so cacophonous that the Party Chief Dr Farooq Abdullah threw a challenge on Ruhullah Mehdi to resign from his Member Parliament seat and start his own political career , which Mehdi welcomed warmly with numerous questions and also asked for accountability first. Aga Ruhullah Mehdi is likely to resign as an MP on November 03-2026, the 26th death anniversary of his father Aga Syed Mehdi.
Ruhullah Mehdi`s feeling of saudade for 370, statehood, and other matters made him a contrarian leader with a spine.

Implications

Administrative focus:For sure the administrative focus and efficiency is eroded. This melodramatic political stuff and people taking euphoria in Ruhullah`s drift from National Confrence is somewhat compromising the contemporary mass demands by overshadowing them ,for e.g electricity tarrif hike, basic infrastructure, unemployment ,alcohol surge, women safety etc. Till this thing remains in Bulletins, other demands won`t catch an administrative eye.
By-elections:Once Ruhullah Mehdi`s Srinagar Lok Sabha seat falls vacant, by-elections would be a litmus test for both National Confrence and Ruhullah Mehdi to check who has the real public mandate. This clash of egos will decide the public backing and the political longevity in the heart of J&K UT. Countdown for JKNC: This move could dismantle the lifelong crediblity of National confrence and a paradigm shift in J&K could be seen wherein dynastic politics would get marginalised and a new political front would take over.BJP`s resurgence: Since Kashmir region is resenting over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah`s governance and no opposition in the valley seems to be a replacement for ruling the J&K UT, Jammu region has a fertile foothold for BJP wherein they could easily sweep the legeslative election polls and adjust their shortcomings somehow and could be able to run the Union territory for the first and not the last time. Once they are in the game ,370 and statehood is a dystopian dream .
