Jammu, Aug 13: With the objective of further strengthening passenger convenience and revenue security, Jammu Division today signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) for cash pickup facility.
Under this new agreement, SBI will provide cash pickup facility at 18 additional railway stations in Jammu Division. With this expansion, cash pickup facility will now be available at a total of 67 railway stations in Jammu Division.
Problems faced earlier:
Security Risk: At stations where cash pickup facility was not available, large amounts of cash had to be kept at the station for several days. This posed a risk of theft, robbery and misappropriation.
Pressure on Staff:
Station Managers and booking staff had to take responsibility for securing the cash and depositing it in the bank themselves, which affected their primary duties.
Delay in Revenue: Due to inability to deposit cash in the bank on time, there was a possibility of delay and discrepancies in revenue accounting.
Transportation Issues:
Transporting cash safely from remote stations to the bank was a major challenge.
Benefits now:-
Enhanced Security: Safe collection of cash at stations and its transportation to the bank will significantly reduce the risk of theft, misappropriation and cash-related irregularities.
Revenue Transparency:
Ensuring daily deposit of cash in the bank will make revenue accounting more transparent and systematic.
Relief for Staff:
The pressure on Station Managers and booking staff to hold cash will reduce, allowing them to focus more on passenger services.
Faster and Smoother Operations:
Safe and timely transportation of cash to the bank will make the financial operations at stations faster and smoother.
Modern Financial Management:
This step is an important initiative towards digital and secure financial management of Railways.
On this occasion, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu stated,
"Passenger safety and revenue security are our top priorities. With this new MoU with the State Bank of India, not only will the cash handling process become more secure and transparent, but the workload of our frontline staff will also reduce. Stations that earlier faced risks in keeping cash will now have a secure arrangement. Our aim is to implement a modern and secure financial system at every station in Jammu Division."
