
Driver killed, 2 students injured
Srinagar, June 12: A school bus driver was killed, and two students were injured after a bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.
Officials said the school bus of IPTS School from Khansahib met with the accident at village Neego Brenwar while passing through the area.
In the accident, the driver of the bus identified as Shahid Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kechwari Khansahib, died on the spot.
Two students from Raiyar Khansahib were also injured in the accident.
The injured students were initially shifted to a health centre at Surasyar and later referred to Sub-district Hospital Chadoora for treatment. They were subsequently shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialised treatment.
The injured students have been identified as two sisters Zeenat Ul Islam and Ifra Rashid, daughters of Abdul Rashid Gosi from Check-e-Quds, Khansahib.
Soon after the incident, residents, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam Athar Aamir Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam Hariprasad visited SMHS Hospital to meet the injured children.
The doctors informed the DC and SSP that both children are stable and recovering well.
The DC directed the hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care and all necessary assistance to the injured children during their recovery.
"The district administration is closely monitoring the situation," DC saidadding that all required medical facilities and support are being provided to the injured children and their families.
Police has taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
