A soldier was killed in a gunfight that erupted between terrorists and security forces after a joint contingent of police, CRPF and army launched a search operation in the Singhpura area of Chatroo in Kishtwar on Thursday.
After Thursday's gunfight, there has been no fresh contact with the terrorists, who are holed up in the forest area, sources said.
They said security agencies suspect that 3-4 terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad including its top commander Saifullah are trapped in the area.
"A massive search operation is being carried out by a joint team of security forces," a security official said.
He said a search operation to track down the terrorists hiding in the dense forest area is underway for the third consecutive day.
"Additional troops have been inducted, and an operation is ongoing to neutralize the terrorists," the official said.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat also visited the Singhpora-Chatroo area to supervise the anti-militancy operation.
The DGP personally visited the dense forests and mountainous terrain, encouraged the deployed personnel, and issued directions to ensure that all terrorists involved are dealt strictly and brought to justice.
