The security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir have been beefed up to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of Republic Day functions in the Union Territory.
Although the militancy in Kashmir has significantly decreased in recent years, security agencies are leaving nothing to chance and have made detailed arrangements for peaceful Republic Day celebrations.
Tight security measures have been put in place around Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu where the main R-Day function will be held. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha would unfurl the tricolour.
Tight security was also put in place around the Bakshi stadium, the venue of main function in Srinagar where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary would preside and unfurl the tricolour .
This is the first Republic Day following the formation of an elected government since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019.
Officials said the security forces have already sanitized the Bakshi stadium and round the clock vigil is also being maintained around the adjoining areas.
An aerial surveillance was also being maintained at the sensitive places. In Srinagar, security forces, including the police and CRPF, were seen conducting surprise vehicle checks at multiple locations. Additionally, security around key installations has been heightened, officials said.
After a full dress rehearsal at Bakshi stadium on Friday, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, said that a multi-layered security system was set up at all venues hosting Republic Day events across Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration anticipates substantial public participation in the Republic Day events. Top officials from Jammu and Kashmir’s civil administration have extended invitations to the public to join the festivities.
Official sources said that security forces have been directed to ensure minimal disruption to enable citizens to participate in the celebrations without inconvenience.
