Security tightened ahead of Republic Day

January 26, 2026 | Hiba Beigh

Srinagar, Jan 25:Security forces on Saturday intensified vigilance across Srinagar by carrying out extensive door-to-door search operations and deploying drones for aerial surveillance as part of precautionary arrangements ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

Joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir Police, assisted by paramilitary forces, conducted searches in several residential and congested localities of the city. During the exercise, houses were checked, identities verified, and movement of vehicles and pedestrians closely monitored at multiple checkpoints.
Officials said the operation was aimed at strengthening the security grid and preventing any untoward incident during the upcoming national event. Drone surveillance was also carried out over sensitive areas to provide real-time inputs to ground teams and enhance monitoring.
Senior police officers were seen supervising the operation on the ground, ensuring that standard operating procedures were followed. Authorities maintained that the exercise was routine in nature and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies.
Meanwhile, residents reported increased deployment of security personnel across Srinagar over the past few days. Police officials said similar security measures are being implemented in other parts of the Valley to ensure peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations.
