Handwara, August 1: A seven year old student lost his life after being struck by a landslide inside the premises of a private school in the Mawer area of Handwara on Saturday, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Rehan Ahmad Dar, son of Reyaz Ahmad Dar and a resident of Khudi Mawer. He was studying at Front Line School, Mawer.

Officials said the child came under a landslide that occurred within the school premises following continuous heavy rainfall. He was immediately shifted to the New Type Primary Health Centre, Qalamabad, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident has triggered widespread grief in the area, with the bereaved family and local residents left in shock.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated legal proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
