Srinagar April 11: A SpiceJet flight operating from Jammu to Delhi — Flight SG 161 — encountered severe turbulence during its final approach to Delhi Airport, leaving passengers visibly shaken. The frightening mid-air episode occurred as the pilot was preparing for landing, causing the aircraft to jolt violently and overhead cabin baggage to fall.
Despite multiple announcements from the crew and the seatbelt sign being switched on, the turbulence led to chaos inside the cabin. Passengers clung to their seats as the aircraft was rocked by the unstable weather conditions.
Among the passengers was Raja Mohindin, Editor of the daily Urdu newspaper Tamil Irshad, who later recounted the ordeal. “It was a Delhi-bound flight that faced massive turbulence during descent. It felt like sheer luck that we landed safely. Everyone on board breathed a sigh of relief once we touched down,” he said, describing the commotion inside the flight.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the aircraft managed to land safely. However, the experience has raised concerns about passenger safety during turbulent weather conditions, especially during the critical phases of flight.
