
Shopian, July 3: A grand Wushu Championship was organised at the Indoor Stadium, Arhama, Shopian, under the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council's flagship My Youth My Pride initiative, witnessing enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the district.
The event was attended by Manager Bakshi Stadium Srinagar Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar as the chief guest. Guests of honour included Hilal Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Manager, TRC Srinagar; DySP Talat Mahmood; Ghulam Rasool Khanday, In-charge Manager, Sports Stadium Batpora, Shopian; and Rameez Ahmad, In-charge, Indoor Stadium Arhama.
Among the distinguished guests were Taekwondo coach Aqib Gulzar, Volleyball coach Sadiya Hussain, national Wushu medallists Fardeen Siddiq, Sameer Ahmad and Suhail Wani, along with NIS Cricket Trainer Suhail Wani.
The dignitaries appreciated the performances of the participants and encouraged them to pursue sports with dedication and discipline. They highlighted the importance of sports in promoting fitness, confidence, discipline and positive youth engagement while creating opportunities to compete at the state and national levels.
The organisers thanked all guests, coaches, officials, participants and supporters for contributing to the success of the championship.
A special appreciation was extended to the Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, for her leadership and continued support in promoting sports through the My Youth My Pride initiative, which has provided a valuable platform for nurturing young talent across the Union Territory.
The championship concluded with a prize distribution ceremony and a renewed commitment to encouraging greater youth participation in sports and strengthening the sporting culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
