
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir Saturday organised a Technology Exhibition-cum-Farmer Interaction Program at Baghwani Sallar, Anantnag. The daylong program showcased the university’s ongoing mission to transform agriculture through innovation, technology, and farmer empowerment.
The event, organised under HADP-20 Innovative Extension Approaches for promoting Agriculture in J&K, witnessed a significant participation from farmers, scientists, officers, and students.
Member Legislative Assembly from Bijbehara constituency, Dr Syed Bashir Ahmad Veeri was the chief guest at the occasion. DDC Member from Anantnag, Mr Nisar Ahmad, and Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai were the Guests of Honour. Director Research, SKUAST-K, Prof Haroon Rashid Naik, delivered the welcome address.
In his keynote address, Dr Syed Bashir Veeri stressed the need for greater agricultural awareness and adoption of the latest technologies to boost productivity, profitability, and sustainability in farming. He lauded SKUAST-K’s farmer-centric initiatives and called for continued collaboration between researchers and farming communities to ensure inclusive rural growth.
Nisar Ahmad, DDC Member, in his address highlighted the initiatives taken for establishing a Centre of Excellence for Fisheries and Allied Sectors through SKUAST-K at Baghwani Sallar, which will serve as a state-of-the-art hub for fisheries research, capacity building, and livelihood enhancement for the local youth and fish farmers.
Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, reiterated SKUAST-K’s vision of integrating research, education, and extension to achieve sustainable and resilient agricultural development across Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, seed bins, crates, rose cans, tarpaulins, oats seed, and protective nets were distributed among more than 450 farmers to promote scientific farm management practices. A special Animal Health Camp, jointly organised by KVK Kulgam and KVK Anantnag, provided free veterinary medicines and health services to over 200 farmers.
During the interactive session, the farmers were also provided detailed information of HADP, JKCIP and the other Govt schemes of agriculture and allied sectors that can be availed by the farming community.
The event provided an enriching platform for farmer–scientist interaction, exchange of innovative ideas, and demonstration of new technologies, reflecting SKUAST-K’s unwavering commitment to the progress, prosperity, and well-being of the farming community in South Kashmir.
Farmers appreciated the SKUAST-K initiative and hoped that such programs will continue to happen in the future.
