
There was a slight improvement in the night temperature across the Valley with most places recording a rise while the Meteorological department has predicted light snowfall over the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir during next 24 hours.
In Srinagar, minimum temperature during the intervening night climbed to 0.4°C, a marked rise from -4.0°C the previous night.
Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded a low of -0.2°C compared to -3.6°C while the tourist destination Pahalgam saw its minimum jump to -1.8°C from -4.8°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.2°C up from -3.2°C, and Kokernag settled at 0.8°C as against -0.8°C night before.
The ski-resort of Gulmarg registered a minimum of 0.0°C, significantly higher than the previous night’s -1.0°C.
According to MeT, the weather will remain generally cloudy with a brief spell of very light snowfall likely at isolated higher reaches of these regions.
“December 6-7 is expected to remain generally dry,” the MeT official said.
“On December 8, there will be generally cloudy skies with possibility of a brief spell of very light snowfall over isolated high-altitude areas of North and Central Kashmir. From December 9 to 13, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy, while December 14-15 may witness partly to generally cloudy conditions,” he said.
The MeT official from December 16-17, there is forecast of partly to generally cloudy weather with chances of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
The MeT has cautioned that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places across the Kashmir and at isolated locations in Jammu region.
