
Srinagar, Jun 11: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb on Thursday reviewed arrangements being made for the observance of Muharram-ul-Haram and directed officials to ensure timely completion of civic works at major religious sites across the city.
During an inspection of key Imambaras, shrines and congregation points, the commissioner assessed the preparedness of various wings of the corporation for the annual observance, an official statement said.
Accompanied by senior SMC officers, Haseeb visited several locations, including Ayatullah Syed Yousuf Imambara in Bemina, Kadimi Imambara Zadibal, Astaan Aalia Mir Shams-ud-Din Iraqi shrine, Imambara Baghwanpora and Imambara Hassanabad.
The commissioner directed officials to ensure sanitation, drainage clearance, desilting of drains, repair of roads, maintenance of streetlights and uninterrupted water supply at all identified locations.
He asked field officers to complete all necessary works well in advance and maintain close monitoring of the arrangements to facilitate devotees during Muharram.
The statement said special attention was given to sanitation management, waste disposal, emergency response preparedness and improvement of public infrastructure around major congregation sites.
Haseeb also directed officers to remain available in the field and ensure prompt redressal of public grievances.
The SMC, he said, is committed to providing necessary civic facilities and ensuring smooth conduct of Muharram-related activities across the city.
