In response to waterlogging triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr. Owais Ahmed, carried out an extensive inspection of dewatering operations across key flood-prone areas in the city.
Joined by the Superintending Engineer of the Drainage Circle, Executive Engineers, and other senior officials, Dr. Owais assessed the effectiveness of ongoing drainage efforts to ensure timely and efficient water clearance.
During the visit, the Commissioner personally inspected critical hotspots and evaluated field-level strategies being employed to mitigate urban flooding. He reviewed the functioning of permanent dewatering stations and the deployment of advanced Mobile Pumping Units—an essential asset in the city’s flood control mechanism.
Dr. Owais also monitored the city’s drainage infrastructure using the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which enables real-time oversight and enhances the operational efficiency of dewatering mechanisms. This technology-driven approach aims to improve responsiveness and minimize disruption during adverse weather.
Commending the on-ground teams for their commitment and round-the-clock efforts, Dr. Owais stressed the need for continued vigilance, proactive coordination, and public cooperation. He also appealed to residents not to dispose of waste into the drainage system, noting that such practices contribute significantly to blockages and aggravate flooding.
The SMC has advised citizens to remain cautious and report any emergencies to its 24x7 Control Room, which remains fully operational to address public concerns during this period of inclement weather.
