Snowfall triggers waterlogging in Sgr Parts

January 24, 2026 | Hiba Beigh

Srinagar , Jan 23:Fresh snowfall accompanied by intermittent rain disrupted normal life in Srinagar on Thursday, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city, officials and local residents said.

The water accumulation was reported after snowfall in the city and higher reaches, followed by rain and partial snowmelt, which put pressure on the drainage system in vulnerable localities.
According to ground reports, waterlogging was witnessed in parts of Lal chowk , Polo view , TRC , Batamaloo and Dalgate causing inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. Traffic movement slowed considerably in these areas as water accumulated on roads during peak hours
The situation was exacerbated by continuous precipitation and snowmelt, a common winter occurrence when rainfall follows fresh snowfall in the city. Several internal roads also witnessed surface water, affecting daily movement.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted further spells of rain and light snowfall in the Kashmir Valley over the next 24 hours, advising people to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas.
