
The Jammu & Kashmir SnowShoe Association held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025 at the Radisson Collection Hotel & Spa, Riverfront Srinagar. The meeting, attended by senior office bearers, athletes, and dignitaries, saw the election of a new executive body and a comprehensive review of the Association’s achievements and goals.
The AGM was observed by Mir Mudassir, Acting President of the World SnowShoe Federation and President of the SnowShoe Federation of India. He praised the Association’s consistent efforts in promoting winter sports, saying, “J&K continues to remain the heartbeat of Indian SnowShoe running. Its athletes and leadership have brought the sport national prominence.”
Members expressed gratitude to outgoing President Tariq Zargar for his leadership since 2020, during which J&K hosted several National Championships and Khelo India Winter Games, with athletes winning medals at the World SnowShoe Championships.
Tariq Rashid Ghani was unanimously elected as the new President. The newly formed executive team includes:

In his address, President Tariq Ghani vowed to expand SnowShoe’s reach across J&K and reinstate it as a competitive event in the Khelo India Winter Games. Senior Vice-President Naseem Chaya stressed grassroots development to identify new talent across districts.
The AGM highlighted key achievements, including hosting the 9th National SnowShoe Championship at Sonamarg with over 200 participants, participation in the 5th Khelo India Winter Games 2025, and J&K emerging as the overall champion.
Future plans include hosting the 10th National SnowShoe Championship 2026, organizing a Guinness World Record 9-km race above 10,000 ft, and representing India at the Ciaspolada SnowShoe Race in Italy (Jan 2026). The Association will also felicitate Jahangir, a special athlete who won two medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Turin, Italy.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Altaf ur Rehman, appreciating the members, athletes, and supporting departments for their contributions to the growth of SnowShoe sports in J&K.
