
Social Welfare department organizes open discussion (debate) on ‘Ending Stigma on Menstruation’ at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) -Khonmoh under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women- Mission Shakti Srinagar with the aim to eradicate the stigma of Mensuration in the society organized this programme in which young students participated and debated their thoughts and experiences on this sensitive issue.
It aimed to change the perception of the society, where period stigma is the negative social and cultural aspect of menstruation, which is viewed as dirty, embarrassing or something to be hidden, rather than a normal biological process. This stigma leads to harmful myths, silence, discrimination, lack of access to menstrual products and information, impacting people’s health, education, dignity and quality of life.
The programme witnessed the presence of SANKALP staff, teachers and students from the host school who shared their views regarding the awareness of hygiene and ending the stigma of menstruation.
Also the SANKALP staff provided the information about women centric schemes, skill courses, livelihood schemes and legal services.
Later the event concluded with distribution of appreciation and participation certificates to the young students who participated in the debate.
