An Army man was killed on Monday evening in a grenade explosion inside the headquarters of 16 Rashtriya Rifles in Surankote area in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said that the blast took place around 7:45 pm and led to the death of a soldier.
Officials said that it is not immediately clear whether the incident was caused by a militant attack or resulted from an accidental blast.
“Investigations are underway. At this stage, it would be premature to draw conclusions about the nature of the incident,” they said.
After the explosion, teams from Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the site and initiated preliminary investigations.
The area was cordoned off, and forensic specialists were called in to examine the spot.
Police officials confirmed that all angles are being examined, including the possibility of an accidental handling error or technical malfunction.
“The cause of the blast is under verification. A case has been registered and further investigations are on,” they said.
