August 04, 2026 | BK News Service

Guwahati, Aug 3: Intelligence-based joint operations conducted by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps, in coordination with state police forces, have resulted in the arrest of 43 individuals and the seizure of narcotics and other contraband worth approximately ₹76.12 crore across Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The operations were carried out from July 1 to July 31, 2026, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal activities and movement of contraband in the region.
During the coordinated operations, security forces recovered a large quantity of narcotic substances, including approximately 3.67 kg of heroin, 14.95 kg of methamphetamine/Yaba/crystal meth, and around 30,000 Yaba tablets.
In addition to narcotics, the forces also seized other prohibited and smuggled items, including nearly 3,500 bottles of codeine-based substances, 7.03 kg of marijuana, 62,484 kg of areca nuts, 2,37,800 foreign cigarette sticks, and approximately 14,575 kg of poppy seeds.
Officials said the successful operations reflect the effectiveness of close coordination between the Army, Assam Rifles and state police agencies in tackling organised networks involved in drug trafficking and smuggling activities.
The recovery of large quantities of narcotics highlights the continued threat posed by illegal trade routes in the northeastern region, where security forces have been maintaining heightened surveillance to prevent the movement of contraband.
The arrested individuals have been handed over to the concerned law enforcement agencies for further investigation and legal action. Authorities are also working to identify wider networks and linkages involved in the illegal activities.
The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have reiterated their commitment to supporting civil administration and law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking, protecting communities and maintaining security across the northeastern states.
