Currently, we are enjoying the Asia Cup, where eight teams are participating, including India, Pakistan, Oman, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Such tournaments remind us of the joy that sports bring into our lives. Let’s enjoy sports in their true spirit and keep our minds cool and calm.
Sports activities are extremely useful for maintaining good health and an active mind. Every year, countless sporting events are organized across the world. In the present era, games like football, tennis, volleyball, and cricket are among the most popular. Participation in sports at any level—state, national, or international—brings people together, strengthens bonds of friendship, clears negative thoughts, and prepares us to face challenges in life.
Sports should always be taken in the true spirit of sportsmanship. They must remain free from politics, religious influence, and unfair practices. Selection and participation should be based purely on merit. Sports are not wars but tests of our physical strength, mental focus, and skills. Unfortunately, some media channels sensationalize sports events for the sake of TRP, exaggerating rivalries instead of celebrating the spirit of competition.
Personally, I love engaging in different sports for my physical and mental fitness. Games like badminton, carrom, and gym workouts are enjoyable, but cricket has been my favorite since childhood. Cricket enjoys immense popularity in Asian countries, which have produced legendary players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Wasim Akram, Rahul Dravid, Shahid Afridi, Anil Kumble, Virat Kohli, and Babar Azam.
It is unfortunate that some people, lacking sporting spirit, try to compare cricket with war, politics, or religion. In reality, cricket is simply a game where 11 players from each team compete under the supervision of umpires. Cricket is a thrilling sport, though sometimes misused to promote negativity.
Cricket has three formats:
Test Cricket: a five-day match played under traditional rules.
One Day International (ODI): a 50-over format.
Twenty20 (T20) Cricket: a fast-paced 20-over format.
T20 cricket, introduced more recently, has gained massive popularity in the last decade and a half. Its shorter duration and exciting style have captured fans worldwide. Today, T20 leagues and tournaments are held in many countries, adding glamour and charm to the sport.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the governing body that manages fixtures and introduces new rules. Currently, the ICC T20 World Cup is being played in Dubai, UAE, where top cricketing nations are competing with enthusiasm. Fans cheer every six, four, or even a dot ball, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
The India–Pakistan cricket rivalry often becomes the highlight of such tournaments. Due to their shared history and political tensions, these matches attract global attention. Tickets sell out weeks in advance, and when the two teams clash, stadiums echo with chants of support. However, in the end, only the team that plays with discipline, stamina, and focus emerges victorious.
Sports—especially cricket—should always be seen as a means to unite, entertain, and inspire, never as tools for conflict.
