Srinagar DC reviews Abhinandan Home upgrade

Srinagar, April 6: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, visited Abhinandan Home Solina, Kashmir’s oldest institution for specially-abled children, to inspect the Rs 9.90 crore state-of-the-art school building project for children with hearing and speech challenges.

Accompanied by senior officials from R&B, Social Welfare, KPDCL, and the school, the DC reviewed ongoing construction, which will include classrooms, a principal’s office, staff room, computer lab, library, gymnasium, indoor games court, therapy and medical rooms, washrooms, dormitory, and dining hall.
Labroo stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure timely completion without compromising quality. He also inspected the upgraded hostel-cum-kitchen and interacted with students and staff, distributing sports kits, cricket bats, and badminton sets to encourage active participation in games.
The DC highlighted plans to introduce higher education, vocational training, skill development programs, and trade diplomas for specially-abled students. He directed the organization of career-oriented camps in collaboration with industry representatives and a health screening camp to ensure student well-being.
Responding to students’ requests, Labroo assured the provision of a dedicated school van for safe and convenient transportation.
