Srinagar, Oct 24: Srinagar Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions and diversions across several parts of the city ahead of the third edition of the Kashmir Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, urging motorists to plan their journeys in advance.

Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, the marathon will affect traffic movement on several major roads, including Residency Road, M.A. Road, Boulevard Road, Gupkar Road and Foreshore Road.

According to the traffic advisory issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar, Bisma Qazi, the movement of heavy motor vehicles will remain prohibited on R.R. Road, Gupkar Road, Boulevard Road and Foreshore Road from 8 pm on Saturday.

Traffic restrictions will begin at 5 am on Sunday on several routes. Residency Road, from Radio Kashmir Crossing to Polo View, and the stretch between Court Road Clock Tower and Biscoe School Crossing will face restrictions during the morning hours.

Vehicular movement from Jawahar Nagar and Lal Mandi towards Police Station Rajbagh and Presentation Convent School will also be restricted. Restrictions will similarly apply on M.A. Road from Budshah Chowk towards Dalgate and Badyari.

The Foreshore Road stretch from Nehru Park towards Kralsangri and Nishat, along with the routes near Habak Crossing and Kashmir University up to Sir Syed Gate, will remain closed until the marathon concludes. Traffic from Hotel Lalit towards Gupkar Road and Ram Munshi Bagh, as well as from Sonwar towards Ram Munshi Bagh, will also face restrictions from 5 am.

To ease inconvenience, the traffic police have designated alternative routes for commuters. Vehicles travelling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat and Brein have been advised to use the Burzahama route via Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakura, Habak and Naseembagh.

Motorists coming from Ganderbal and Nagbal towards Lal Chowk should use the 90-Feet Soura Road, while commuters from Rambagh and adjoining areas have been advised to take the Jawahar Nagar Bund Road.

Traffic cut-off and diversion points will include Lal Mandi, Jahangir Chowk, Mamta Crossing, Ikhwan Chowk, Nishat, Kralsangri, Unani Hospital, Pantha Chowk, Harwan and Grills Junction in Hazratbal.

Students appearing in examinations have been advised to carry their valid admit cards to facilitate movement through restricted areas and help them reach their examination centres.

The advisory states that emergency services, including ambulances and fire tenders, will receive priority passage through the shortest possible routes.

The traffic police have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel on affected roads, particularly between 5 am and 1:30 pm on Sunday, and cooperate with personnel deployed for traffic regulation.

For traffic-related assistance, commuters can contact the Srinagar Traffic Police Control Room at 103.
