
The Martyr Altaf Memorial Cricket Tournament commenced today with an impressive inaugural ceremony held at Sports Stadium Bandipora. The event was inaugurated by SSP Bandipora Shri Harmeet Singh Mehta-JKPS, in the presence of senior officers from Police, Army, and CAPF.
A total of 64 teams from across the district are participating in the tournament, which will be played on a knockout basis. The tournament is being organized by police in collaboration with the Cricket Association Bandipora, with the aim of paying homage to the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The inaugural match was played between Alfa Cricket Club Bandipora and Wullar Sports Hajin. The opening ceremony witnessed the participation of esteemed guests, local dignitaries, cricket enthusiasts, and family members of the fallen police martyrs.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Bandipora said that the Police Martyrs’ Cricket Tournament not only honours the sacrifices of the martyrs but also fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship among the youth. He added that the participation of 64 teams reflects the district’s immense enthusiasm for the event.
The Cricket Association Bandipora extended heartfelt gratitude to the Police for their collaboration in organizing this significant tournament.
