Stay Healthy This Summer

Summer is also the season to focus on good health. Keep children indoors during the hottest hours of the day and provide them with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, curd, fresh juices, and sufficient drinking water to keep them hydrated

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced the summer vacation for schools from 6 July to 19 July. School students are thrilled to enjoy this well-deserved break. During the scorching summer, many people from cities travel to the higher reaches to spend their vacations in the cool and pleasant climate.

As we enjoy the beauty of summer, we must also remain cautious. I sincerely request every parent to safeguard their beloved children from drowning incidents. Keep a close watch on them, especially near rivers, streams, lakes, and other water bodies, and educate them about the dangers these places can pose. If you are planning a picnic or any outing, always accompany your children and ensure their safety.
Summer is also the season to focus on good health. Keep children indoors during the hottest hours of the day and provide them with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, curd, fresh juices, and sufficient drinking water to keep them hydrated.
The phenomenon of day and night is caused by the rotation of the Earth. A full day begins at midnight (12:00 a.m.) and ends at 11:59 p.m., making a total of 24 hours. Besides rotating on its axis, the Earth also revolves around the Sun, completing one revolution in approximately 365 days and 6 hours. This is why every fourth year is a leap year, consisting of 366 days.
The Earth's revolution gives rise to the four seasons:
Spring: March 21 – June 21
Summer: June 22 – September 21
Autumn: September 22 – December 21
Winter: December 22 – March 20
Nature's beauty lies in these changing seasons. We experience rain, snow, heat, and cold, each bringing its own charm. The Kashmir Valley, situated in the northern Himalayas, enjoys a pleasant climate for most of the year, making it one of the world's most admired tourist destinations. During summer, thousands of local and international tourists visit the valley to experience its breathtaking landscapes. The dense forests of the Pir Panjal Range help keep many tourist destinations cool even during the hottest months.
One remarkable feature of nature is its balance. The Almighty has created a world where natural processes sustain life and offer countless opportunities to admire and learn from His creation.
Staying Fit and Healthy During Summer
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of clean water throughout the day. Proper hydration:
Boosts energy.
Aids digestion.
Keeps the skin healthy.
Helps prevent heat-related illnesses.
Eat Hydrating Foods
Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
Watermelon contains about 92% water and is rich in fibre, vitamins A and C, potassium, magnesium, and B vitamins. It aids digestion, keeps you full, and helps maintain hydration.
Lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C. Lemon water supports hydration, digestion, and immunity.
How to prepare lemon water:
Squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water for a refreshing drink.
Many people also enjoy warm lemon water after a morning walk as part of a healthy lifestyle. While it may support hydration and encourage healthy habits, it should not be considered a guaranteed method for weight loss.
Stay Cool and Safe
Avoid going outdoors during the hottest part of the day.
Schedule outdoor activities for the morning or evening.
Wear light-coloured cotton clothes.
Apply sunscreen before prolonged sun exposure.
Bathe regularly to stay fresh.
Exercise during the cooler hours of the day.
Drink fresh juices and other healthy beverages.
Summer in Kashmir is a season of beauty, greenery, and joy. By following simple health precautions, eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated, and ensuring children's safety, we can make the most of this wonderful season.
Enjoy your summer vacation responsibly, protect yourself from the heat, stay away from dangerous water bodies without proper supervision, and continue appreciating the magnificent wonders of nature.
