Stray dogs create havoc in Natipora

November 04, 2025 | MOHMMAD DAANISH

Residents of Natipora in Srinagar are raising concerns over a growing menace of stray dogs that have been roaming freely in the area, creating fear and disruption for locals.

According to reports, several packs of stray dogs have been seen on roads, in residential colonies, and near markets, attacking pedestrians, children, and even pets. Locals claim that the situation has worsened over the past few months due to an increase in stray dog population and lack of effective municipal action.
“We are afraid to let our children play outside. These dogs are aggressive and roam in packs. Even crossing the road has become risky,” said a resident of Natipora.
Several residents have urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and animal control authorities to take urgent measures, including sterilization drives, proper shelter, and relocation of stray dogs to prevent accidents and attacks.
The health risks posed by stray dogs, including the spread of rabies, have also been highlighted by locals and civic activists. “Immediate intervention is needed. If not controlled, the situation can escalate into serious injuries and health hazards,” said an activist.
So far, the authorities have not issued any official statement regarding plans to address the issue. Residents continue to appeal for prompt action to ensure safety and restore normalcy in Natipora.
