Student backs drug-free J&K campaign

May 04, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid

Srinagar, May 3: A student from Srinagar has voiced strong support for the ongoing “Drug-Free Jammu & Kashmir” campaign, calling for increased public awareness and collective action to combat the growing menace of substance abuse in society.

Speaking on the issue, the student emphasized that drug addiction is not only destroying the lives of individuals but also impacting families and the social fabric at large. He said awareness at the grassroots level is crucial to prevent youth from falling into the trap of substance abuse.
He urged educational institutions to play a proactive role by organizing awareness programmes, seminars, and counselling sessions to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs. “Young people must be guided towards positive activities like sports, education, and skill development so they stay away from harmful influences,” he said.
Highlighting the role of society, the student called upon parents, teachers, and community leaders to remain vigilant and maintain open communication with youth. He stressed that early intervention and support can make a significant difference in preventing addiction.
The student also appreciated the efforts of the administration and various organisations working to spread awareness under the anti-drug campaign. He urged people to actively participate in such initiatives and contribute towards building a healthier and safer society.
Reiterating his appeal, he said that tackling drug abuse requires a united effort, where awareness, prevention, and community support go hand in hand to secure the future of the younger generation.
