Minister for Education, Social Welfare and Health, Sakeena Itoo, chaired a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the performance of the School Education Department (SED). The meeting was attended by Secretary SED Ram Niwas Sharma, Directors of School Education (Kashmir/Jammu), CEOs, and senior officials.
The Minister evaluated key performance indicators including learning outcomes, teacher performance, infrastructure readiness, HR management, and implementation of schemes like Samagra Shiksha, PM-POSHAN, PM-SHRI, and the New India Literacy Programme (NILP).
She stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and outcome-based strategies to improve education quality. "We must bridge learning gaps, ensure digital access, train teachers, and uphold inclusive education across all regions," she said.
Highlighting enrolment concerns—especially among girls and marginalized groups—Sakeena called for strict implementation of schemes like Beti Anmol. She instructed timely provisioning of electricity, solar panels, and toilets in all remaining schools, setting six- and four-month deadlines respectively.
The Minister expressed concern over persistent challenges in remote areas and urged swift action. “Teachers are torchbearers of our future. Their accountability must be fixed,” she asserted, while also directing principals to actively take classes.
She issued strict orders against unauthorized teacher transfers and stressed that all such moves must be approved by respective Directors. The Minister also emphasized regular monitoring and coordination with executing agencies for timely completion of infrastructure projects, given the region’s short working season.
Secretary SED presented a detailed overview of departmental initiatives and challenges during the meeting.
Sakeena Itoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transform J&K’s education system. “Reforms are not just policy shifts—they are investments in the future of our children,” she concluded.
