
Srinagar, June 2: The 1st PTF India Open International Taekwondo Championships 2026 concluded successfully at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, Srinagar, after four days of high-intensity competition, international participation, and strong displays of sportsmanship.
Organised by the Professional Taekwondo Federation India (PTFI) under the aegis of the Professional Taekwondo Federation (PTF), the championship brought together more than 400 athletes from India and six other countries, making it one of the largest taekwondo events hosted in the region.
The closing ceremony was attended by Grandmaster Rick W. Shin, President of the Professional Taekwondo Federation, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Selma Li, President of CARES, as Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries included Grandmaster Kevin Woon, Tournament Director, Master Lee Wan Young, Referee Chairman, and Grandmaster Atul Pangotra, President PTF India, along with coaches, referees, officials, and sports enthusiasts.
In his address, Grandmaster Rick W. Shin praised the athletes and organisers for successfully conducting the inaugural edition of the championship and said the event reflected the growing global footprint of professional Taekwondo. He expressed confidence that India would emerge as a strong contributor to the international Taekwondo community.
Dr. Selma Li highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, leadership, and international friendship, while commending the participants for their commitment and performance throughout the competition.
Grandmaster Atul Pangotra thanked all partner organisations, including the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, referees, volunteers, and sponsors, stating that the successful execution of the event lays a strong foundation for future international Taekwondo competitions in India.
During the ceremony, medals, trophies, and certificates were awarded to winners across categories, celebrating excellence and dedication among participants.
