Tehsildar spearheads market checking drive in Khanyar

March 05, 2025 | BK News Service

In view of the holy month of Ramadhan, a market inspection drive was conducted in Khanyar to ensure quality standards and fair pricing of essential commodities. The drive was spearheaded by Tehsildar Khanyar, accompanied by the Tehsil Supply Officers of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Riyaz Ahmad Hakeem and Gulzar Ahmad.
The special inspection was aimed at curbing overpricing, checking the quality of food items, and ensuring adherence to hygiene standards, particularly as markets witness a surge in consumer demand during the fasting month. The drive covered commercial areas, including the bustling markets of Khanyar, Sheeraz Chowk, and other adjoining localities, where traders were inspected for compliance with government regulations.
Speaking about the initiative TSO Khanyar emphasized the administration’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring that people have access to quality food at reasonable prices during Ramadhan. “We are closely monitoring the markets to prevent any exploitation of consumers. Hoarding, overpricing, and selling substandard food items will not be tolerated,” he asserted.
One of the primary focuses of the drive was to inspect meat and poultry shops, dairy products, fresh fruits, vegetables, and bakery items—staple commodities that witness heightened demand during Ramadhan. Officials ensured that items were being sold at government-approved rates and that proper billing practices were followed. The team also visited grocery stores and wholesale suppliers to check stock availability and prevent hoarding.
As Ramadhan progresses, the administration urges both consumers and traders to cooperate in maintaining an ethical and hygienic business environment, ensuring that the festive month remains a time of peace, piety, and prosperity for all.
