Anger is a powerful and intense feeling. It arises quickly and can take full control over a person, disturbing their physical, mental, and emotional state. When we become angry, our body shakes, our voice trembles, our eyes turn red, and our thinking ability weakens. We often lose self-control and speak harsh or abusive words without thinking about who we are talking to or where we are. As the saying goes, “Anger is a wind that blows out the lamp of the mind.” In anger, we harm not only others but also ourselves.
Many people commit harmful acts when angry—some even go as far as murder. Anger can make a person use insulting or offensive language toward family, friends, or colleagues. Some people hide their anger instead of expressing it, which can lead to depression or even self-harm. Those who frequently get angry may suffer from psychological problems.
It’s not easy to explain why we get angry. Often, anger comes from being mistreated, disrespected, or when our wishes are not fulfilled. Anger can lead to many wrong actions, which is why it must be controlled. A wise and educated person does not lose his temper easily.
However, not all anger is wrong. Sometimes, anger is justified—when used correctly and for the right reasons. As Aristotle said, “Anyone can get angry, but to be angry with the right person, at the right time, for the right reason, and in the right way is very difficult.”
Therefore, we should learn to control our anger. A good old saying advises: “When you are angry, count to one hundred before speaking.” The best way to overcome anger is to delay your reaction and give yourself time to calm down.
