In the foothills of the mountains, there was a lush and fertile forest, where greenery spread everywhere. In the center of this forest was a vast jamun orchard, owned by the eagle, who was also the king of the forest birds. One day, the eagle invited all the birds to a feast. Birds from all around the forest, including a few from nearby human settlements, were happily invited.
When all the birds had gathered, the eagle noticed that very few birds from the human settlements had arrived. He asked, "Can anyone tell me why the sparrows, swallows, and nightingales from the human settlements have come in such small numbers? Is this not an insult to my invitation?"
The birds began to whisper among themselves. Then a small sparrow gathered the courage to step forward and said, "Your Majesty, this is not an insult to your invitation. The truth is, our numbers have drastically decreased. Our species is rapidly dwindling."
The eagle was astonished. "But why? Hunters have always been around. What is the sudden cause of this decrease?"
The crow spoke up, "In the human settlement, the water is polluted, and the air has become toxic. Perhaps that’s the cause."
The koel, with its melodious voice, added, "It’s not just pollution; there is something else, which we cannot fully understand."
The swallow said, "We need to find the root of this problem. Let's ask the pigeons living near humans; perhaps they know something."
A pigeon spoke, "We no longer get the grains and food we once did. Our food is now mixed with chemicals, and we are being given medicines. Our species is surviving on these medications."
A parrot, which lived in a child's house, spoke up, "I overheard a child reading that radioactive rays and magnetic waves are affecting birds. These are even dangerous for humans."
Upon hearing this, the eagle became worried. "We must do something. If this continues, the sparrows, nightingales, and swallows will be completely wiped out, and even the birds that protect human crops will no longer be around."
The birds decided to go to humans to plead their case. They went to a doctor, who confirmed that the radioactive rays were harmful to both birds and humans. But the doctor said, "This issue is beyond my control."
Disheartened, the birds went to a politician, but he only tried to placate them by offering food and avoided addressing the problem. Then they went to a retired scientist, who said, "I have retired, but if you manage to educate children, they will become the future scientists and leaders who can solve this problem."
The birds then went to a school where children were having their lunch. Upon seeing the birds, the children offered them their food, but the parrot said, "We do not need food. We need your help!"
One child asked, "What can we do?"
The swallow replied, "Our species is vanishing. If this continues, your crops will be ruined, and the food you waste today will not be available tomorrow."
Hearing this, the children became serious. A girl said, "We need to find a solution to this problem. It is a question of our future."
The children promised that they would work to improve the environment and reduce the effects of radioactive rays. The birds happily returned to the jamun orchard and enjoyed the feast. On the other hand, the children began efforts to stop environmental pollution.
Thus, both the birds and humans took steps together to save nature.
