Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said time was appropriate for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope about early restoration of state status to J&K.
“We feel that time is appropriate for the restoration of Statehood. The time is appropriate as six months have passed after the Assembly elections,” Omar told reporters in Pulwama after inaugurating a bridge.
He said last week Home Minister Amit Shah visited both Srinagar and Jammu.
“I had a separate meeting with him. It was a good meeting. I am hoping that Jammu and Kashmir will get the status of a state again very soon,” Omar said.
Understanding the importance of Statehood, the CM said, “Statehood is not our destination but a prerequisite to start the process of reclaiming what the people have lost in the last six to seven years. The people’s mandate was for restoring their dignity and protecting their identity.”
Reaffirming his government’s commitment, Omar said, “We will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling the promises and commitments made to the people during elections.”
He also highlighted various initiatives and welfare measures undertaken during the last six months of his government.
