Four members of a family including couple were killed when a tree fell on their mudhouse due to inclement weather conditions in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"At about 3 am, four persons of a nomad family were killed when a tree (Kail) fell on them while they were sleeping," Khalil Poswal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar said on Thursday.
He stated that the tree fell due to heavy rains and wind (natural calamity).
The deceased were identified as Nazir Ahmed,55, son of Chittra Bakerwal, His wife Anzara, 42, daughter-in-law, Shama Bano,18, and one Shakila, 26, daughter of Chiddya Bakerwal.
All were residents of Barwal Ghatti, district Kathua.
The SSP said that the police team reached the spot.
Legal proceedings have been set into the motion while more details are awaited, said the officer.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the unfortunate incident in Kishtwar district.

“Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in a tragic incident in Kishtwar. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones,” the Lt Governor said.
The Lt Governor has directed the Deputy Commissioner to provide all assistance to the next of kin of the deceased.
Others also expressed grief and sorrow over the unfortunate incident and asked the administration for sanction of immediate compensation to all the family members for rehabilitation.
