Knowledge and wisdom are closely related — like two sides of the same coin — but they are not always the same. Sometimes they can exist independently. Many spiritually enlightened people in history gained deep wisdom without any formal education. Their understanding was so profound that even highly educated people admired them.
In Kashmir, saints like Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (RA) and Lala Arifa (Lal Ded) became symbols of great spiritual knowledge though they never studied in any institution. Their writings and verses (Shruks and Waakhs) continue to inspire even the most learned people today. Their knowledge did not come from books or worldly sources but from self-realization — understanding themselves, through which they discovered the truth of God.
As the Almighty says in the Qur'an :
“One who knows himself, knows his Lord.”
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, in his essay “Humanities vs Science,” points out that humans have created many scientific inventions like the light bulb, telephone, and computer, yet often fail to understand the deeper meaning of life. We live mechanically, like robots, focusing only on the surface of existence. True wisdom comes when we develop our human spirit and reflect on the purpose of life.
Therefore, real wisdom is not just about worldly or scientific knowledge but about understanding one’s true self. This realization is beyond gender or outer identity — it lies in expressing the best of what it means to be human, the most remarkable creation of God.
