
The 2nd Kashmir Division Strength Lifting Championship, organized by the Srinagar District Strength Lifting Association under the banner of the J&K Strength Lifting Association, concluded successfully today at Baghi Wares Khan, Downtown Srinagar. The championship witnessed the participation of 60 athletes from across the division, competing in Strength Lifting and Inclined Bench Press across various weight categories.
The event was graced by MLA Tanvir Sadiq as the Chief Guest, who honored the medal winners for their outstanding performances. Addressing the gathering, MLA Sadiq emphasized the importance of sports in youth engagement, physical fitness, and mental well-being. He also announced the construction of a state-of-the-art auditorium in the Downtown at a cost of ₹4 crore, providing a major boost to local sports infrastructure. He expressed hope that the next championship would be organized in the proposed auditorium.
Speaking at the event, MLA Tanvir Sadiq remarked, "Being among young athletes makes me feel young again. Sports are essential for youth development, and I will always support such initiatives. If any need arises for the youth, I will personally take it up with the government to ensure their requirements are met."
The Championship of Champions title was awarded to *Mr. Sahil, the best-performing athlete of the tournament, along with a trophy and other consolation prizes.
The event proceedings were conducted by Anis Choudhary, a well-known strength lifter of Kashmir, popularly known as the "Power Man." Speaking on the occasion, Anis highlighted the significance of hosting the championship in Downtown Srinagar, stating that the region is the birthplace of Iron Games in Kashmir, dating back to the 1960s, and has now gained recognition across the Valley.
The Vote of Thanks was presented by Ashok Singh, former Divisional Sports Officer, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest for his valuable support and encouragement to the youth. He also extended thanks to the Kashmir Division District officials and supporters for the successful conduct of the championship.
