Security forces intensified anti-terror operations across Jammu on Monday, detaining two persons moving suspiciously and continuing extensive searches in high-risk areas, officials said.
The Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of the Army apprehended two individuals near their camp in Bari Brahmana, Samba district, around 10:30 am. They were later handed over to local police for questioning.
Operations resumed in the snow-bound Chatroo belt of Kishtwar district, now on its 16th day, aimed at tracking and neutralising terrorists involved in at least four encounters over the past fortnight. Search parties comprising Army, police, and CRPF are navigating knee-deep snow to locate hiding militants.
Suspicious movements were also reported in the Joffer area of Ramnagar sector late Sunday night, prompting a search across Joffer, Marta, Kulthian, Sohan, Kheal, and Chour Mottu along the Ujh river, though no suspects were found. Similar operations are underway in Ramgarh forests (Udhampur) and Kalas Top (Rajouri), along with multiple high-altitude areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, and Reasi districts.
The Chatroo operation began on January 18 with a gunfight at Sonnar village that killed a paratrooper and injured seven soldiers. Subsequent encounters were reported on January 22 and January 26 near Janseer-Kandiwar. Moderate snowfall on Sunday had temporarily disrupted search efforts.
Officials said the coordinated operations aim to prevent terrorist infiltration and ensure the safety and security of civilians in the region.
