Reasi, Feb 3: Two youths were killed early Tuesday morning after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Dharangli Tote area of Reasi district, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Mannu, son of Rattan Singh, and Jagdev Singh, son of Balwan Singh, both residents of Shoral. The accident occurred under circumstances yet to be fully ascertained.
Officials said the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a stretch of the road, causing it to plunge into a deep gorge. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Locals alerted authorities soon after the mishap.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and retrieved the bodies, which were later shifted to a nearby medical facility for medico-legal formalities.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the area, especially as Jagdev Singh was scheduled to get married on February 10. A case has been registered, and further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, officials added.
