Sopore, May 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at over 15 locations in Baramulla district on Saturday in connection with an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) network, officials said.
Search operations were carried out in Bomai, Warpora, Sopore and Turzo areas with the assistance of security forces as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal activities and suspected links with the banned organisation.
Officials said the raids aimed to verify suspected associations and collect evidence related to the case. Documents, digital devices and other materials have been seized and are under examination.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to dismantle networks supporting banned organisations in the region, and further investigation is underway.
The action comes weeks after the administration declared Islamic seminary ‘Jamia Sirajul Uloom’ in Shopian illegal under the UAPA, citing alleged links with Jamaat-e-Islami, financial irregularities and misuse of premises. Education Minister Sakina Itoo had said affected students would be accommodated in other institutions.
