
Srinagar, Jan 14: The Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar concluded a three-day workshop on “Bloodletting Procedures (Hijama bi’l Shart, Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq and Fasd) in Ilaj bi’l Tadbeer”. The workshop was organised under the Centre of Excellence (CoE) project funded by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The valedictory session held at Srinagar, marked the culmination of an intensive academic and hands-on training programme.
Registrar, University of Kashmir, Prof. Naseer Iqbal who was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function highlighted the role of academic and research institutions in strengthening traditional systems of medicine. He appreciated RRIUM Srinagar for organising capacity-building programmes that promote evidence-based and ethical clinical practices in Unani medicine.
Delivering the valedictory address Deputy Director, RRIUM Srinagar, Dr. Irfat Ara summarised the outcomes of the workshop and highlighted the importance of structured hands-on training in bloodletting procedures such as Hijama, Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq and Fasd for enhancing clinical competence. She commended the participants of the workshop for their active engagement throughout the proceedings.
Earlier, Research Officer (Biochemistry), Dr. Towseef Amin outlined the objectives and clinical relevance of the workshop, emphasising its focus on strengthening evidence-based Unani regimenal therapy. Research Officer (Botany), Mr. Tariq Ahmad, underscored the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and the integration of traditional knowledge with scientific validation.
Certificates and awards were distributed to participants, including medical officers from the Department of ISM, and students and faculty from Government Unani Medical College, Ganderbal; Institute of Asian Medical Sciences, Zakura; and Kashmir Tibbia College Hospital and Research Centre, Shilvat, in recognition of their successful completion of the workshop. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Research Officer (Unani), Dr. Arsheed Iqbal.
