New Delhi, Sep 13: A group of enthusiastic students from Upper Assam had the rare honour of meeting the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of their National Integration Tour (NIT)—an initiative aimed at fostering unity, cultural understanding, and national pride among the youth from remote and border regions.
Organized under the aegis of the Indian Army’s civic outreach program, the tour was designed to provide students with exposure to the cultural, technological, and administrative diversity of India. The interaction with the President marked the highlight of their visit, offering them a glimpse into the highest office of the Indian Republic.
During the meeting, President Murmu warmly welcomed the students and engaged with them in an open and encouraging conversation. She praised their inquisitiveness and resilience, urging them to stay committed to their studies and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the nation.
“You represent the strength and potential of the new India,” she told the students. “Continue learning, stay rooted in your values, and aim high.”
The President also lauded the efforts of the Indian Army for organizing such initiatives that promote emotional integration and national consciousness among youth, especially those from geographically and socially isolated regions.
For the students, this interaction was nothing short of transformative. Many expressed that they had never imagined meeting the President in person, and the experience left them deeply moved and inspired.
“This was the most unforgettable moment of my life,” said Priya Das, a student from Tinsukia. “The President’s words made me realize how important our role is in building the future of India.”
Another student, Ritul Saikia from Dibrugarh, added, “Meeting her felt like meeting someone who truly understands the aspirations and struggles of people from remote areas like ours.”
Apart from visiting Rashtrapati Bhavan, the tour included stops at several iconic landmarks and institutions in Delhi and other cities, including the Parliament House, India Gate, and the National Museum. Students also interacted with officers of the Indian Army and attended sessions on career opportunities, cultural heritage, and the importance of national unity.
The National Integration Tour has long been recognized as a vital tool in nation-building, helping bridge cultural and geographical divides and fostering a spirit of unity among India’s diverse population.
As the students returned to Assam, they carried not only memories of historical monuments and official receptions but also a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility.
This initiative, once again, underscores the significance of inclusivity and integration in India’s democratic framework, with the youth playing a crucial role in shaping the country’s future.
