Srinagar, May 4: Massive waterlogging was reported from Khan Mohalla in Nishat area of Srinagar on Monday after a nallah overflowed due to blockage caused by accumulated garbage, residents said.
Locals said that incessant rains led to water flowing from upper reaches into residential areas after the drain failed to carry the discharge.
Some shopkeepers alleged that garbage dumping into the nallah by people, coupled with lack of clearance by concerned agencies, led to the blockage.
They said the Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (JKLCMA), which is responsible for desilting and clearing of such drains, and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) failed to remove the waste, resulting in the overflow.
“The nallah is completely choked due to garbage. Despite repeated issues, no proper action has been taken,” they said, blaming both public negligence and official inaction.
The waterlogging disrupted normal life in the locality, with water entering several areas and affecting movement.
