Gulmarg records coldest night of season at -7 degree C
MeT predicts light rain, snow on Dec 8-9

After experiencing snow and rain, the weather condition improved across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday while the Meteorological department has predicted light rain and snow on December 8-9.
The weather conditions improved from today afternoon.
“As expected, weather improved and is mainly clear in all districts,” a MeT department official said.
He said Srinagar recorded 15.3mm rainfall during 24 hours.
“Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius as against 0.6 degrees Celsius of previous night,” the official said.
He said Qazigund recorded 17.8mm of rain during the last 24 hours and recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius.
“Pahalgam recorded 12.2mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The tourist resort recorded a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius. Kokernag recorded 13.2mm rainfall and night temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius. Kupwara town in north Kashmir had 10.3mm of rain in the last 24 hours and recorded a night temperature of 1.0 degrees Celsius,” the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, had 12.2mm of snowfall in the last 24 hours.
“The Gulmarg tourist resort recorded a night temperature of minus 7 degrees Celsius,” he said.
The resort was the only place in the Valley, where the minimum temperature stayed below the freezing point on Sunday night.
Sunday night was the coldest night of the season in Gulmarg.
The MeT official said there is a possibility of light rain and snow in some places in J&K on December 8 to 9.
“Rest the weather would be mainly dry. Overall, there is no significant weather for the next 10 days in both J&K and Ladakh,” he said.
The official, however, said there would be gradual fall in night temperature in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal road connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri in Jammu region remained closed for vehicular traffic today.
