Srinagar, October 5: Weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir are expected to undergo a change from Tuesday after a prolonged dry spell and unusually warm temperatures. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at some places, along with the possibility of rain. Higher-altitude areas may also receive light snowfall.
According to the latest weather forecast, Monday is likely to remain mostly dry. From October 6, partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected to develop, with light rain in some areas and light snowfall possible over higher reaches.
The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds on October 6. Thunderstorm and lightning activity is also likely on October 8 and during October 9–11.
The change follows a period of above-normal daytime temperatures across several parts of the region. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2°C on October 4, while Qazigund reached 31.4°C and Kokernag 29.4°C. Pahalgam recorded 25.8°C, while Gulmarg registered 23.2°C.
A more significant spell of rain and snowfall is expected around October 8–11 due to the influence of a Western Disturbance. Snowfall is likely to become more noticeable at higher elevations during this period.
