Weeklong mobile security boot camp begins at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 9: A weeklong Bootcamp on “Mobile Security” commenced on Monday at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The five-day programme, scheduled from February 9 to 13, 2026, is being organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Srinagar, in collaboration with IIT Jammu.
The bootcamp is sponsored by the Information Security Education & Awareness (ISEA) Phase III Project of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti is the Convener of the bootcamp, while Dr. Shaima Qureshi and Dr. Sparsh Sharma are serving as Coordinators.
The inaugural function was presided over by Incharge Director and Dean Research & Consultancy, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohie Naaz, and attended by several senior faculty members, including Deans, Heads of Departments, and researchers from various disciplines.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Roohie Naaz said that mobile security has emerged as a national priority, given the extensive use of mobile devices in critical sectors such as banking, healthcare, and governance.
“With over a billion mobile users in India, securing mobile platforms is no longer optional. This bootcamp aims to equip participants with cutting-edge knowledge, practical skills, and real-world insights to tackle emerging mobile security challenges,” she said.
She added that the programme will cover key areas such as secure application development, threat modelling, encryption protocols, and defence mechanisms against phishing, malware, and supply-chain attacks.
The bootcamp will feature hands-on laboratory sessions, real-world case studies, and expert mentoring by faculty from NIT Srinagar, IIT Jammu, and industry professionals.
Earlier, introducing the programme, Convener Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti said the bootcamp has drawn participation from students of NIT Srinagar, IIT Madras, University of Kashmir, Central University of Kashmir, Women’s College Srinagar, North Campus University of Kashmir, Amar Singh College, and other institutions.
He urged participants to actively engage in technical sessions, laboratory work, and expert interactions to strengthen their practical understanding of mobile and cyber security.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anil Saini, Senior Scientific Officer from IIT Jammu, highlighted the rapidly evolving mobile threat landscape, noting that security can no longer be treated as an afterthought in the era of digital services.
