Srinagar, Feb 14: A weeklong bootcamp on “Mobile Security” concluded at the National Institute of Technology Srinagar on Saturday, bringing together students, researchers, and experts to deliberate on emerging threats in the mobile ecosystem.
The programme was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Srinagar, in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Jammu.
It was sponsored under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Phase III initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti served as the Convener of the bootcamp, with Dr. Shaima Qureshi and Dr. Sparsh Sharma as Coordinators.
The valedictory session was presided over by Incharge Director and Dean Research & Consultancy, Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, while Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman attended as Guest of Honour.
In her keynote address, Prof. Roohie Naaz said the weeklong programme was structured to combine strong theoretical foundations with intensive hands-on training, enabling participants to effectively respond to rapidly evolving mobile security threats.
About growing risks of cyber fraud, data breaches, and malicious applications, she said institutions must proactively build technical capacity to safeguard digital ecosystems and spread awareness.
“This camp focused on critical areas such as secure application development, threat modelling, encryption standards, and countermeasures against phishing, malware and supply-chain attacks,” Prof. Roohie said.
She also thanked MeitY for supporting the initiative under ISEA Phase III and acknowledged the collaboration of IIT Jammu, faculty members and participants.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, who was the Guest of Honour, underscored the growing significance of cybersecurity in an increasingly digitised society.
He said that academic institutions must play a proactive role in developing skilled professionals capable of safeguarding digital infrastructure, and lauded the department for organising a timely and impactful programme in collaboration with IIT Jammu under the ISEA initiative.
Earlier, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Saima Qureshi, presented a detailed report of the workshop, outlining its objectives, thematic focus, and participation profile.
She highlighted the structured sessions conducted over the week, the expert lectures delivered by academicians and industry specialists, and the hands-on modules designed to equip participants with practical skills in mobile application security and cyber threat mitigation.
The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sparsh Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, invited speakers, collaborating institutions, sponsoring agency MeitY, faculty members, and participants for their active engagement and support.
Later, organisers also felicitated the participants and resource persons in recognition of their involvement and contribution to the successful conduct of the bootcamp.
