
In a significant step towards reimagining urban mobility in Kashmir, the Institution of Engineers (India), J&K State Centre, in collaboration with the Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), organized a high-impact workshop titled “Transforming Traffic, Ensuring Safety” in Srinagar.
The one-day event brought together technocrats, civic officials, architects, academics, and policymakers to discuss sustainable transport solutions tailored to Srinagar’s growing urban challenges. The workshop aimed to address traffic congestion, road safety, and the need for integrated urban mobility systems.
Vijay Kumar Bidhuri (IAS), Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. He underscored the urgency of implementing integrated and actionable mobility solutions to tackle the region's mounting traffic issues.
Er. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai (Retd. IAS), former Advisor to the Governor of J&K, was the Guest of Honour, while Lateef uz Zaman Deva, Vice-Chairman of GCC, delivered the welcome address. Er. Iftikhar Ahmad Hakim, Chairperson of IEI J&K State Centre, presented the valedictory address, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable infrastructure development. The event was coordinated by Dr. Jahangeer Ali, Honorary Secretary, IEI J&KSC.
The workshop concluded with a dynamic panel discussion and Q&A session, fostering meaningful dialogue and actionable takeaways. The recommendations will be formally submitted to relevant government departments for policy consideration.
