World Suicide Prevention Day: Suicide Ends a Chance to New Life

September 11, 2025 | KC Sethi

Life is a precious gift, elusive but deep, full of challenges and potential. Many times, the burden of pain becomes too much to bear. Pain, loss, failure, and loneliness can make the mind think that suicide is the only way out. Suicide is not a way to end life—it's a solution to a problem that is usually transient.

The Illusion of Escape

Suicide provides an illusion of freedom, but suicide mutes all avenues of change, growth, and healing. Difficulty is that storm; it never stays. Clouds disappear, rain stops, and the blue sky returns. Suicide is departing without seeing the rainbow following the storm. It takes away the day after tomorrow the opportunity to be better than today.

Life is Greater than Suffering

Every human is more than their pain. Pain is on the path but not the whole path. History is replete with instances where individuals emerged out of their worst moments to generate light for themselves and others. Pain has the propensity to drive one towards power, creativity, and resilience. By committing suicide, one is removing the possibility of transformation that pain itself can give rise to.

The Ripple Effect

Suicide is not a deed that takes someone's life; it spillover into the hearts of lovers, friends, and society. It creates wounds that take forever to heal. The survivors are typically left in a cloud of unanswered questions, guilt, and overwhelming sadness. A despairing life can be a long agony of many. Suicide is therefore inflicting pain instead of ending it.

Alternatives to Self-Destruction.

Rather than surrendering to despair, one can:

Talk and share

Telling a friend, counsellor, or loved one about suffering lightens the burden.

Seek assistance from a professional
Support groups and counsellors can assist in coping mechanisms.

Participate in healing exercises:
Writing, art, meditation, or exercise can redirect energy.

Provide time: Circumstances shift. What is intolerable today may seem possible tomorrow.

A Call to Value Life

Life is not supposed to be perfect; it is supposed to be lived. Every breath is a chance, every day a fresh start all over again. Somber nights follow before days so radiant. Suicide takes away the miracle of healing, the thrill of discovered blessing, and the insight of inner strength.

Conclusion

Suicide is not a way to end life, but a termination of hope, progress, and possibilities. No amount of suffering, however big, is worth the cost of living. The future does not rest in flight, but in seeking help, patience, and strength. Life is worth it, and in its most painful moments, it also contains seeds of rebirth. Lifelong learning is the act of choosing courage, and with courage, every storm can be weathered until peace is back.
