April 13, 2026 | BK News Service

Kohima, April 12: Assam Rifles under Spear Corps organised an orientation visit for newly commissioned Young Officers of the Assam Regiment at Kohima, Nagaland, aimed at familiarising them with the regiment’s rich legacy and historical battlefield significance.

As part of the visit, the officers paid homage at the Kohima War Memorial, honouring the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II. The memorial stands as a solemn reminder of the fierce Battle of Kohima, one of the decisive engagements in the Burma Campaign.
The officers were also briefed in detail about the historic Battle of Kohima, which marked a turning point in the Allied defence against Japanese forces in 1944. The session highlighted the courage, resilience, and strategic importance of the Assam Regiment’s contribution during the conflict.
Instructors and senior officials underscored the importance of preserving regimental heritage and instilling a deep sense of pride, discipline, and commitment among newly commissioned officers. They emphasised that understanding historical battles strengthens leadership qualities and operational awareness in modern military service.
The programme served as an important induction experience, connecting young officers with the valour and traditions of their regiment, while reinforcing the ethos of service and sacrifice that defines the Indian Army.
